The Guerriers Beyond Lifting club is a high performance weightlifting club that has recently rewarded two of its young athletes, Emily Ibanez-Guerrero and Ivy-Marie Buzinhani Brustello, for their outstanding performance during the season 2021-2022. Both Emily and Ivy are 12 years old and are aiming for the Olympics in their respective weight categories – Emily in the 55 kg category and Ivy in the 40 kg category.
Additionally, the club has offered to cover all expenses for Rosalie Dumas of GBL club and Brayan Ibanez-Guerrero of LPS club @lpsathletic for their upcoming international competitions.
At the Louis-Cyr tournament, both Emily and Ivy had exceptional performances. Ivy broke three Louis-Cyr records with a snatch of 51 kg, a clean and jerk of 61 kg, and a total of 112 kg. Emily also broke two Louis-Cyr records with a clean and jerk of 92 kg and a total of 162 kg. In addition to these impressive achievements, Emily won the best youth athlete award at the tournament.
In the overall rankings, regardless of age category (mini, youth, and junior), Emily finished 3rd with a Sinclair of 236,156 and Ivy finished 6th with a Sinclair of 218,944. Just one week later at the Christmas cup, Emily validated three new personal records with a snatch of 73 kg, a clean and jerk of 93 kg, and a total of 166 kg.
The parents of these talented young athletes have made great sacrifices to give their children the means to perform at a high level in weightlifting. It takes a whole team of dedicated and passionate people, including coach Abigail Guerrero, to give Emily and Ivy the support and resources they need to excel in the sport.
Abigail puts a strong emphasis on technique and it has clearly paid off, as both Emily and Ivy have qualified for the youth world championships. They will represent Canada at this competition and, with Emily's best total of 166 kg, she is unofficially ranked 6th in the world. Ivy's best total of 112 kg has earned her an unofficially ranking of 10th in the world.
It is clear that Emily and Ivy have bright futures ahead of them in the world of weightlifting and the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club is proud to support and celebrate their achievements.
