Masters athletes shine at local competition

The Guerriers Beyond Lifting club, based in Montreal, has reason to celebrate after a successful showing at a local weightlifting competition held in Lachute on March 11th, 2023. The competition was jointly organized by CrossFit Lachute and the weightlifting club Force vive, providing an excellent opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills.

Several athletes from Guerriers Beyond Lifting club participated in the competition. Notably, Chantal Touchette, Marco Millin, Benoit Brissette, Daniel Dufour, and Abigail Guerrero competed as masters athletes. They are all preparing for the pan am masters championships and the world masters championships. Fiona Gervais, on the other hand, competed as a youth athlete.

The results of the Guerriers Beyond Lifting athletes were impressive.
Fiona, who competed in the -64 kg and 16-year-old category, achieved personal bests in both snatch and clean & jerk with 66 kg and 81 kg, respectively. This was an improvement of 14 kg in the total since her last competition in February, where she competed at the Performance Circuit 3. Fiona’s personal best in the snatch increased by 10 kg, while her personal best in the clean & jerk increased by 3 kg.

Chantal, competing in the -59 kg category and at 49-year-old, validated 48 kg in the snatch and 66 kg in the clean & jerk.

Marco, competing in the -81 kg category and at 48-year-old, achieved a personal best in clean & jerk and the total by 1 kg with 70 kg and 98 kg.

Daniel, competing in the -81 kg category and at 52-year-old, validated 71 kg in the snatch and 88 kg in the clean & jerk.

Benoit, competing in the -73 kg and category at 53-year-old, achieved personal bests in both snatch and clean & jerk with 66 kg and 95 kg. This resulted in an increase of 8 kg for his personnal best in the total.

Abigail, competing in the -59 kg category and at 44-year-old, validated 64 kg in the snatch and 70 kg in the clean & jerk.

The athletes were coached by Abigail Guerrero and Temuera Betham, the latter of whom is in the process of becoming a certified coach for Quebec. With these impressive results, the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club can feel confident in their ability to perform at high levels and represent their club in upcoming competitions.

Overall, the competition held in Lachute was a great opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and improve upon their personal bests. The club can feel proud of their hard work and dedication to the sport of weightlifting.
