Resilience and determination on display at Ontario Classic

On March 18th, the Ontario Classic weightlifting competition was held in Ontario, Canada. The event was especially significant for Ismail Rachidi who had something to prove after facing setbacks in his weightlifting careers.

Ismail Rachidi had stopped training due to the COVID pandemic. He came back into Olympic weightlifting in late November 2022 and joined the Guerriers Beyond Lifting weightlifting club based in Montreal. Ismail's hard work paid off at the Ontario Classic, as he validated three new personal records, lifting 110 kg in the snatch and 140 kg in the clean and jerk for 250 kg total. He won the 73 kg category. Before training at Guerriers Beyond Lifting, Ismail's personal records were 102 kg in the snatch and 126 kg in the clean and jerk. His snatch progressed 8%, his clean and jerk 11% and his total 10% during a 4-month time period, a remarkable improvement in a short amount of time.

The Ontario Classic was a well-organized event. We received multiple positive comments about the quality of the streaming. The Ontario Weightlifting Association deserves thanks for their hard work and dedication in organizing the competition and providing an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Canadian Senior Championships.
