The Canadian National Senior Championship, held from May 19 to May 21 at the Variety Village Sport Center in Scarborough, Ontario, delivered a thrilling spectacle of athletic prowess and competitive spirit. This event was meticulously organized by the Ontario Weightlifting Association under the supervision of President Mike Miller and Competition Administrator Dimitrije Mancic. Amid the intense competition, the championship was lauded for its organization, with an army of volunteers from Variety Village and the hosting club, Variety Village Weightlifting Club, ensuring smooth proceedings.

The championship saw numerous clubs and athletes vying for supremacy, including two representatives from the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club. Ismail Rachidi, an up-and-coming athlete from the club, showed considerable potential in the -73 kg category, finishing 8th with a commendable 105 kg snatch and 140 kg clean and jerk. His efforts reflected a significant improvement in his performance since beginning his training with the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club (+8% in the snatch and +11% in the clean and jerk).

Rosalie Dumas demonstrated an astounding performance in the -81 kg category, securing three gold medals and setting a new personal record in the process. With a total of 235 kg, an 104 kg snatch and a remarkable 130 kg clean and jerk, she stole the show and left her competitors in her wake, outlifting her closest rival by 8 kg. Rosalie took particular pride in her first two jerks performance, which were sharp and executed with precision.

Her victory wasn't just limited to the medals. Dumas also achieved a Sinclair score of 269.565, a critical measure that reflects the strength to weight ratio in weightlifting. This impressive score placed her as the 6th best female athlete in Canada, and the second-best in Quebec, trailing only Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Maude Charron.

Dumas' victory at the championship is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and the rigorous training regimen provided by the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club. Her 130 kg clean and jerk was a personal record, a clear demonstration of the progress she has made as an athlete. It is also an acknowledgment of the outstanding coaching work by Abigail Guerrero, head coach of the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club. Guerrero's expert guidance and dedication have been instrumental in honing the skills and boosting the performance levels of these athletes, evident in their impressive display at the championship.

This is only the beginning of the journey for Dumas. With her eyes firmly set on the 2024 Paris Olympics, she's now gearing up to compete in the IWF Grand Prix this June, a crucial qualifying event for the forthcoming Olympic Games.

With her recent victory bolstering her confidence and the support of her trainers and teammates behind her, Dumas stands ready to represent Canada on the world stage. All eyes will be on the IWF Grand Prix, where Dumas will have another opportunity to demonstrate her strength, tenacity, and the spirit of Canadian weightlifting. The anticipation builds for what promises to be an exciting journey towards Paris 2024.
