Saint-Hyacinthe, November 4th – The Quebec Senior Championships witnessed a spectacular display of strength and skill from Rosalie Dumas of the Guerriers Beyond Lifting weightlifting club. Dumas left an indelible mark on the championship, setting a new Canadian record and personal bests.
In the highly competitive -81 kg category (at the canadian level for the Paris 2024 qualification), Dumas weighed in at a close 80.94 kg, but her performance was anything but close. She started in the snatch with a confident 103 kg lift, followed by a smooth 108 kg. Her third attempt was a game-changer – a stunning 109 kg lift, earning her a personal record (PR) and a new Canadian record. Her flawless execution in the snatch, with a 100% success rate across all attempts, set a high bar for the rest of the competitors.
The clean and jerk segment was equally thrilling. Dumas began with an "easy" 125 kg lift. The drama heightened in her second attempt at 129 kg, which, despite a valiant effort, was not approved by the judges due to bent elbows. Undeterred, she returned for her third attempt, successfully lifting the 129 kg, thereby setting another PR (total) and contributing to a remarkable total of 238 kg – a 3 kg improvement on her previous best.
The synergy between Dumas and her coach, Abigail Guerrero, head coach of the Guerriers Beyond Lifting club., was evident throughout the competition. Guerrero's guidance and strategy played a pivotal role in Dumas' success.
Dumas' outstanding performance earned her three gold medals, further solidifying her status as a formidable athlete. She is already preparing for her next big challenge – the IWF Grand Prix II, scheduled for December. This event is not just another competition; it is a crucial qualification event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Dumas's performance in Saint-Hyacinthe has laid a solid foundation for her Olympic aspirations.
For Dumas, the journey to the Olympic Games is filled with challenges and opportunities. She has undoubtedly set a new benchmark for athletes in her category. Her journey and accomplishments serve as an inspiration for upcoming weightlifters, proving that dedication, hard work, and a supportive team can lead to extraordinary achievements. With determination, skill, and the backing of her coach and club, Rosalie Dumas is poised to make a mark on the international stage and edge closer to her Olympic dream.
