Results | Official results
Lachute, December 9th – The Quebec Junior Championships give us remarkable performances of two young athletes from the Guerriers Beyond Lifting weightlifting club, under the expert guidance of their coach, Abigail Guerrero.
Sasha Millin's Bronze medals
In the -55 kg category, 13-year-old Sasha Millin competed with determination. Weighing in at 53.60 kg, Sasha successfully lifted a 52 kg snatch. However, it was his clean and jerk performance that was impressive. Sasha lifted 64 kg, surpassing his previous personal best by 1 kg. His total of 116 kg secured him a third place, with three bronze medals.
Emily Ibanez Guerrero's Silver Success
Emily Ibanez Guerrero, just 12 years old, competed for the first time in the -64 kg category. Weighing 62.10 kg, Emily snatched 83 kg, but it was her clean and jerk that truly showcased her talent. Lifting a staggering 108 kg, Emily not only set a new personal record by 3 kg but also one in the total with 191 kg, an increase of 3 kg from her previous record. Her outstanding performance earned her three silver medals and second place overall in her category, signaling a bright future in the sport.
Coach Abigail Guerrero Gonzalez's Unique Achievement
Both Sasha and Emily are coached by Abigail Guerrero Gonzalez, the head coach of Guerriers Beyond Lifting. Coach Gonzalez's dedication and expertise have not gone unnoticed in the small world of olympic weightlifting. She holds the unique distinction of being the only coach in Canada to have two youth athletes finish on the podium at the youth world championships. Under her guidance, Emily previously secured third place in the world in the -55 kg category, and Ivy-Marie Buzinhani Brustello became the world champion in the -40 kg category.

The achievements of Sasha and Emily at the Quebec Junior Championships are not just personal triumphs but also a reminder that hard work pays off in the long run. Sasha has been lifting for almost 5 years now and Emily for almost 10 years already. As these young athletes continue to grow and excel, they represent the bright future of weightlifting in Canada. Their success at this championship is a source of inspiration for aspiring weightlifters and a proud moment for their coach, teammates, and supporters.
